The Apollo Hospital, Kakinada has got a high resolution fluoroscopic equipment BV Libra installed for better performance of various surgical procedures. It is a lightweight system that gives consistent high quality images over a large scanning range. Most importantly, BV Libra emits 50 percent less radiation than conventional machines, said R Srinivasa Murthy, Consultant Gastroenterologist. Addressing a press conference at the hospital on Sunday, Dr. Murthy said BV Libra could be used for doing Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP), invasive treatment for strictures and carcinoma of esophagus, stomach and duodenum, motility studies of intestines and post–operative assessment of intestinal anastamosis (leakage of intestinal fluids). BV Libra could be steered into the tightest spots and positioned at precise locations. It gives real–time images of the desired contrast and brightness. This equipment is very useful for medical and surgical gastroenterological procedures, particularly in performing ERCP surgeries. Surgeons will also be at ease in using this machine for orthopedic, urological and neuro-surgical procedures. Apollo Hospital medical director C Suryaprakasa Rao, administrator V Srinivas, consultant gastroenterologist Ramakrishna and anesthesiologist Kalyan Chakravarthi were present.
