Hyderabad, June 9th: The AP state government has decided to sponsor the pilgrimage to Manasarovar, a holy spot for Hindus. According to the sources it was the finance minister, Mr. Rosaiah who came up with the proposal. He asked the department of culture to handle it.
The chief minister, Dr. Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy, had decided to facilitate pilgrimage to Jerusalem for Christians last year. The center and state governments have been doing the same for Muslims performing the Haj for years. With Hindus too being added in the list there will be no complaints of discrimination.
Pilgrims have to apply through the Indian government and obtain prior permission from Chinese government and should take insurance polices as pilgrimage to Manasarovar is difficult due to the extreme weather conditions. Principal Secretary for tourism and culture, Mrs. Lakshmi Parthasarathy said that government has formed a committee to work out criteria for selecting pilgrims and packaging the tour.
