AP police bags Webber Seavey Award

Hyderabad, Oct 4th: The Andhra Pradesh Police has bagged Webber Seavey Award for quality in law enforcement for 2009. The award is given annually to the best law enforcement agencies across the world. Andhra Pradesh Police has taken up the project ''Restoring Hops-Speedy Justice Delivery' in the state for the last three years and it could secure convictions to a record number of 249 traffickers convicted in 86 cases of human trafficking in the last three years, the first of its kind in the country.

 

The award would be presented in Absentia at Denver, Colorado, USA on October 5 by International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Director General of Police S S P Yadav, in the statement, said Webber Seavey Award winning organization included city of Richmond Police Department Canada, Minneapolis Police Department, USA, Ontario Provincial Police, Canada and Andhra Pradesh Police Department was the fourth in the list of awardees.

 

Andhra Pradesh Police conducted inter-state and intra-state rescue operations in a big way, he said, adding raids were conducted at Bhivandi Mumbai, Pune, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Vapi of Gujrat, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and at other places across the country. Andhra Pradesh Police's best practice had been documented and circulated to the law enforcement practitioners across the world by United Nations Office on drugs and crime.
