Hyderabad, Feb 4th: The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to distribute 1.41 lakh acres of land to the landless poor on April 14, the birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, as part of the fifth phase of its land distribution program to the poor in the state. State Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao said following the Congress party's ideology, the Andhra Pradesh Government had taken up land distribution program in a big way for the last five years.
The government had already distributed 6.05 lakh acres of land to the landless, benefitting more than 4.23 lakh people so far, he said, adding idea behind taking up massive land distribution program was to empower the landless poor not only in terms of livelihood but also in enhancing his image in the society. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah would distribute the land to the beneficiaries on April 14 in a selected district while the ministers concerned would do it in the revenue divisions of various districts on the same day.
He said priority would be given to weaker sections like Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities and other backward communities while distributing these lands which would be developed by spending the amounts released under National Rural Employment Guarantee Program for cultivation. The minister said identification of cultivable land, ceiling of surplus lands and selection of eligible beneficiaries by the gram sabhas would be completed by February 28 and preparation of pattas and other documents would be completed before March 25.
