Anganwadi's 3-days Strike Observed

The Anganwadi Workers 3-days State-wide Strike headed by Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (APAWHU) against 'government’s move to privatise the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) through private public participation (PPP)' was concluded, here on Wednesday. On the last day, the east godavari district Anganwadi workers staged a huge protest infront of the Collectorate in Kakinada. Wearing black color sarees, all the workers raised slogans against the government and against private participation in running anganwadis. Firstly, they have conducted a rally from the Anganwadi centers towards the Collectorate. After reaching the Collectorate, they took out a procession for over two hours in the Mainroad infront of the Collectorate, there was a huge traffic jam due to this. The Union leaders said that the government had brought out a policy document on the PPP in running anganwadis. Prominent recommendations included replacing nutritious food provided in anganwadis with education and counselling, privatising at least 10 per cent of existing anganwadis, handing over 10 per cent of ICDS projects to Panchayat Raj institutions, outsourcing additional work, and converting service of anganwadi workers to contract basis. They demanded that the government should immediately withdraw its decision to hand over the maintenance of anganwadis to private organisations. Later, they have submitted an appeal letter in the Collectorate. CPM District Secretary Mr. Dhadala Subbarao, Mr. Palivela Veerababu, T.Savitri, Mr. K.S.Srinivas were supported Anganwadi workers. APAWHU District President Baby Rani, Main Secretary M.Veera Lakshmi, Honorable President Duvva Seshu Babji and other leaders are presided over the program. A huge number of Anganwadi workers from the district are participated in the protest.
