Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and alumni of Government Engineering College, Mr. E. Sreedharan said that punctuality, integrity, professional competence and social accountability were the four pillars of his success. Mr. Sreedharan inaugurated the ‘1979-83 Alumni Auditorium' on the campus of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) here on Wednesday. Participating in the inaugural, he said that the credit for teaching the importance of punctuality, integrity and laying the foundation stone for professional competence goes to this college, from where he graduated in civil engineering in 1953. Recalling the days when the baraks meant for the armed personnel of the World War-II were turned into hostels and classrooms for one of the four engineering colleges in Madras Presidency in Kakinada, Mr. Sreedharan said that discipline and values of high standard were taught to the students by all the professors. Mr. Sreedharan, who visited the premises after a gap of 57 years, also recalled that the students in those days were fortunate enough to have excellent mentors and professors and there were no distractions like television and cinema then. Stating that the railway bridge connecting Rameswaram and the mainland, Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro Rail were the three most challenging projects of his career, Mr. Sreedharan said that all the works were completed before the stipulated period and attributed the credit to the core values he had been following and the support from his team members. Vice-Chancellor of the JNTUK Prof. Allam Appa Rao wanted Mr. Sreedharan to be a visiting professor at the University. He explained the initiatives taken up by his team to make JNTUK a world-class University. Registrar Mr. V. Ravindra, Rector Mr. K. Satya Prasad, old students Mr. Raja Suresh, Mr. A.G.K. Rao, directors of the University and others were present.
