Rajahmundry, July 27th: The adult literacy program called ‘Akshara Bharati Phase V is likely to begin in August with more than 20,000 adults, mostly women in the age group between 15 and 35 years, to be enrolled in the program in both East and West Godavari districts. The main objective of the program is to help adults learn to read and write over six months to a year for more than an hour in a day, at continuous education centers set up in villages.

 

The adult education department which is the nodal agency for implementation of the program is conducting survey to identify illiterates, enroll them and help them improve their literacy levels. In East Godavari, nearly 1,077 continuous education centers help adults to improve their literacy levels and in phase V of the program, the authorities are planning to enroll 10 members for each CEC.

 

Under phase IV of the program of the enrolled 30,000 adults and by the end of the six months, only 19,000 adults remained to continue in the education program while the remaining members dropped out for various reasons. The authorities are going to conduct an exam to check the literacy levels which are scheduled to be held on August 6, 7, 10 and 11.For phase V of Akshara Bharati, the authorities are going to enroll nearly 10,950 non literates.
