Rajahmundry, July 7th: Agricultural works has picked up momentum in both East and West Godavari districts, following continuous drizzle for the last few days. Farmers are busy raising paddy nurseries to take up transplantation in a few days. Paddy nurseries were raised to the tune of 65 per cent of the total requirement as of today. In East Godavari paddy is raised over about 2.40 lakh hectare of the total cultivation area of 2.67 lakh hectares.
If the same climate conditions prevail in the district, farmers will begin transplantation probably from July 20 onwards. Though there is deficit rainfall at present, with the incessant drizzle during last few days, farmers are hopeful of going ahead with works and are expecting yield ranging between 35 to 40 bags of paddy per acre. Authorities are keeping fertilizer stock ready and about 1.50 lakh metric tonne of fertilizers are estimated to be required for the Kharif. For July 26,000 metric tones fertilizers are kept ready.
