Kakinada, Jan 11th: In view of the Sankranthi festival APSRTC has deployed 200 additional bus services from district to various destinations in the state. However the number was low against 409 buses operated during last year Pongal. The RTC department says that the extra bus services dwindled to almost 50 percent because of several reasons including little passengers flow at the RTC depots due to the global recession. On the other hand, some of the political party leaders saying that the this time the people reluctant to travel by RTC buses because of the steep hike in the bus fares.
According to official sources, the region has operated a total of 409 special buses in the last Sankranthi season, and earned nearly Rs 45 lakh. Speaking to media, the RTC regional manager Mr. Y. Jagadesh Babu said that they could not dare to operate so many buses and only for the sake of the passengers they were running the buss and not hoping for the earning. Many TD leaders demanded the RTC management to rollback the bus fares as poor and middle class people give more priority to travel by RTC buses during the Sankranthi season.
