The District Government is taking a serious action to put a stop on the usage of Plastic Bags as it damage to the environment from the extraction of petroleum. According to this, Municipal Corporation Officers had a sudden inspection on the shops located at Jagannaickpur, Kakinada based on the complaint they received from the public about the usage of plastic bags. In this inspection, Officers found plastic bags are still in use in few shops and they charged Rs.2000/- fine from each shopkeeper. Officers collected total number of 5000 plastic bags in this inspection. Later, Corporation Officers released a note to the press. They stated that the Government would take the stringent action towards people who refuse the prohibition on plastic bags. They called upon the public to avoid plastic bags as they are made from petroleum, a non-renewable natural resource, contributing to the diminishing availability of oil and damage to the environment from the extraction of petroleum. Sanitary Inspectors Mr. Bhima Shankar, Mr. Prasad and other staff participated in the inspection.
