Accused held in ID liquor case

Kakinada, Jan 27th: The prime accused in the sale of illicitly-distilled (ID) liquor case that killed 13 victims and 272 under treatment,  Pechetti Ramakrishna was arrested and being interrogated along with his assistants including R. Ravi, G. Veerababu, P. Ramesh and P. Raghava. The government was taking all action against the accused and registering several cases including 'attempt to murder' and invoking Preventive Detention (PD) Act. The condition of nine of the hospitalized was found to be serious.

The minister for panchayat raj and the incharge minister of East Godavari, Mr. Botsa Satyanarayana called on the victims at the government general hospital here on Wednesday. He conducted a review meeting with the district administration including the collector, on the hospital premises and directed them to take all steps to save the lives of the victims who were referred to GGH from the local hospital of Amalapuram. He said that the blood samples of the admitted patients were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory  at Hyderabad. Based on the reports of the preliminary tests,the ID liquor was mixed with methyl alcohol.
