Aarogyasri, health scheme for poor

Hyderabad, Dec 13th: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K.Rosaiah today said the 'Aarogyasri' health insurance scheme was a commendable initiative introduced by the state government for the poor people, and the first of its kind in the country. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new pediatric cardiac intensive care wing of the corporate Star Hospitals here, he said 942 diseases were covered under the scheme, including surgeries.

He said the state government was also providing financial assistance to the poor people under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for treatment of diseases not covered under ''Aarogyasri''. The CMF funds were also being provided for the ''Aarogyasri'' scheme,he added. Stating that the health care was a priority for the state government, he said it was trying to provide the necessary equipment to all the government hospitals and was recruiting doctors and para medical staff in a big way.
