The Aadhaar-enabled Direct Benefit Transfer scheme (DBTS) for The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Scholarships and Social Security Pensions, was Launched here by Union Minister of Rural Development Mr. Jairam Ramesh and AP State Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday at Gollaprolu village in East Godavari district. The district is one of the four districts in Andhra Pradesh, where the scheme is being launched as a part of the national wide roll-out of DBTS in the first phase. EG has the distinction of achieving 99 per cent enrolment for Aadhar and as many as 43.32 lakh persons were already issued UID cards. To mark the launch of the scheme, the Union Rural Development Minister paid the pension amount to Nilla Satyanarayana, a physically challenged person, using a micro ATM. The minister also paid wages using micro ATM to MGNREGS workers on the occasion. He had also inaugurated the Jala Prabha Block in Kotha Vajrakutam village, and Pithapuram Mandal Parishad office here. Speaking on this, Mr. Jairam Ramesh has stated that, “by the end of August 2013, every gram panchayat, mandal and district will be on the micro ATM network. You need not run to banks or post-offices to get money. Money will come to you at your doorstep,” he stressed. He said a sum of Rs 3,000 crore was being distributed as wages to 55 lakh MGNREGS workers per annum in the state.“This amount will now come directly to the beneficiaries’ hands without having to run to banks or post offices. The amounts will be distributed through business correspondents using micro ATMs, he added. Later, speaking on this, Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy stated that the Congress party is always ahead to start their activities from E.G.Dist., first as it was become a sentiment to the party. He spoke with some of the beneficiaries directly after the meet and noticed their issues.
