Hyderabad, July 12th: The All India Council for Technical Education has given approval to 70 new engineering colleges in the state this year. With the establishment of these new engineering colleges this year the number of engineering seats has risen to 2 lakh and engineering colleges to 610, the highest in the country. The state has now surpassed Maharashtra, TN and Karnataka which had the largest number of colleges. All these states have less than 1.25 lakh seats each now.

Congress government which came into power later also encouraged private engineering colleges. It approved 150 new colleges during the last academic year alone and 70 this year.

With the AICTE’s (All India Council for Technical Education) latest decision, the number of seats goes up to 2 lakh. Interestingly, there are only 8.5 lakh engineering seats in the entire country.
