57 new trains for the country

New Delhi, July 3rd: In the railway budget announced by the Union railway minister, Mamatha Banerjee, she announced the introduction of 57 new trains in the country. Prominent among them are the Vishakhapatnem-Secunderabad-Mumbai superfast, Bengaluru-Hubli-Solapur superfast, Howrah-Bengaluru superfast Makakhya-puri express, Lucknow-Rae Bareli-Bengaluru superfast connecting south Indian with other parts.

 

She also announced that the Tatkal scheme of the railways, which allows passengers to buy train tickets just a few days before their train journey though for a higher price to be modified. She said that the period of advance booking under the scheme is being reduced from the current five days to two days. Further the minister said that the tickets under the tatkal will be priced depending upon the destination to which a passenger is traveling. Ms Banerjee said that tatkal charges will now be levied as a percentage of the fare subject to a minimum of Rs 100 instead of a minimum of Rs 150 at present.
