Kakinada, Mar 25th: At least five people, including four women, were killed after a police escort jeep of Minister of State for Defence, Mr. MM Pallam Raju hit an autorickshaw at Perumallapuram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. The deceased were passengers of the autorickshaw. Seven people, including two police constables were injured in the accident. According to reports, the injured have been rushed to Kakinada Government General Hospital where the condition of three is stated to be critical.
The incident took place while Raju was going to attend a public function at his Lok Sabha constituency Kakinada from the airport. Raju was unhurt and took control of the situation. Kakinada city MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy and Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch S Venugopalakrishna, Peddapuram DSP Vishnuvardhanarao, who reached the spot, held discussions with the village leaders and assured them of adequate ex-gratia relief from the state government to the families of the deceased. Mr. Raju was seen personally monitoring the rescues operations.
