4579km roads damaged by floods

Hyderabad, Oct 15th: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings Galla Aruna Kumari said that as per the present estimates roads of 4579 kilometers were damaged in the flood-affected areas of Mehboobnagar, Kurnool, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts. Addressing a press conference, she said an amount of Rs.1190 crore would be required for the permanent repairs and Rs.194 crore for immediate repairs for these roads. Aruna Kumari said the department had estimated that Rs.1384 crore would be required for taking up repair works at the all damaged areas.

 

She said the State Government had sanctioned Rs.150 crore under calamity relief fund and relapsed Rs.75 crore for immediate repairs to the roads in the affected areas. She said the R and B staff had already repaired breaches for free flow of traffic. The traffic disturbed in 421 areas in the flood affected districts and out of this the staff had already removed the traffic problems at 391 areas and the works were going on in full swing to remove the traffic problems in other areas. The staff had also repaired 227 culverts out of 742 damaged culverts. She had already visited the affected areas and directed the department staff to make repairs on a war footing.
