3 held for extortion of money

Kakinada, July 26th: The Kakinada police on Sunday arrested three youth, one of them engineering student, on charges of extortion of money and for causing injuries to another engineering student of the same college. According to the Kakinada town crime circle inspector, Mr M. Raja Rao, a student of the Regency Institute of Technology at Yanam, K. Arun Prasanna Bhargava, hatched a plan to extract money from his fellow student G. Narendra Reddy and in this act he took help of his friends Y. Ravi Kumar on July 11. The culprits made a phone call to Narendra Reddy on the day informing that his roommate Krishna’s parents have come to Kakinada and need his assistance to carry their luggage.

The three took Narendra to Recharla Peta railway gate and made a call from his cell to his father in Kadapa saying that Narendra had met with an accident and asked him to remit Rs 50,000 into Narendra’s account to meet his medical expenses. As they was no expected response from Kadapa, they took Narendra’s mobile and ATM card. They withdrew Rs 5,500 from the ATM and inflicted injuries on the body of NArendra with a shapr weapon and fled to Visakhapatnam. A complaint was lodged with Kakinada police and the three culprits were arrested on Sunday. All three were produced in the local court and were sent to remand.
