Ammonia gas was leaked at Nikhil Oil Refineries located at Suryaraopeta near Light house here on Monday. Total 24 workers fell ill after inhaling the leaked ammonia gas. Treatment is being provided for workers at two private hospitals i.e., Safe Emergency and Surya Global Hospital. Health condition of 5 workers is presently serious. This incident took place due to repairs in Gas Safety Wall in packing department. District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad appointed committee of 3 officials to investigate on this case. Kakinada RDO Kishore Kumar, Inspector of Factories Mr. Parameswarao and Pollution Control Board Environmental Engineer Pramod kumar were appointed as committee members. She ordered to submit the detailed report of this incident. One the report has been received, necessary actions will be taken on Management, she added. State Minister Mr. Thota Narsimham, Kakinada Rural MLA Mr. Kanna Babu and other leaders Mr. Bejawada Satyanarayana, Kurasala Satyanarayana visited the hospitals.
