20 hostel inmates take ill

Kakinada, Nov 23rd: Some inmates of the Government SC Welfare Hostel at Tallarevu in East Godavari district were admitted to the primary health center (PHC) at Tallarevu on Monday night for falling sick after eating in their hostel this evening. Sources said that nearly 20 students were admitted in the PHC and their condition had worsened, but officials denied these reports and maintained that only eight students were admitted and their condition was normal.

Meanwhile, co-boarders allege that hostel authorities were not taking proper care, particularly in terms of serving hygienic food to them. They had several times complained to the higher authorities, but there was no action from their end, they lamented. Speaking to media, the social welfare joint director, Mr. B. Nageswara Rao, said that some inmates were served food cooked in the morning, in the evening. After eating this nearly eight inmates fell sick. Immediately, the staff admitted them at the PHC.
