144th Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrated

Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's 144th Birth Anniversary was celebrated here on Wednesday. Marking the day, the District Administration have arranged the celebrations at Rajahmundry Central Jail, District Sub Jail as well as at the Collectorate in the district. The Joint Collector Mr. Muthyala Raju has offered garlands to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Collectorate and paid rich tributes to him. Speaking on this, he called upon the public to follow the teaching of the Mahatma and said that even foreigners were drawing inspiration from him. Additional Joint Collector Mr. Markhandeyulu, DRO Mr. Yadagiri, Collectorate Employees Association President Mr. K.S.V.Subbarao and others participated in the program. The District Congress Party also observed the celebrations here at the DCC office in Kakinada. Ex-Mayor Mrs. Saroja has garlanded the statue of Gandhi and paid tributes to him. District Congress Main Secretary & Office Incharge Mr. Sathi Krishna Chaitanya Reddy has organised these celebrations. On the otherside, the District NGO's and JNTU-K Employees JAC organised silent demonstrations infront of the Gandhi Statues at different places in the city, holding placards of Samaikyandhra as a part of the ongoing agitation.
