14 drown in River Godavari

Kakinada, Jan 30th: Fourteen people drowned while more than ten others were missing after a boat capsized in the Godavari River in this district of Andhra Pradesh early on Jan 30. The mechanized boat was ferrying people from Narsapur in West Godavari district to the holy shrine of Antharvedi on the other side of the Godavari River.

The bodies of 14 people, including nine women and one child, were recovered, police said. The occupants of the boat were going to attend the ''Chakrasnanam'' on the occasion of holy ''Poornima'' on Jan 30. The fiber boat was overcrowded with more than sixty people on board. The incident occurred near Biyyaputippa village.
