‘Rights Day' was observed as part of the week-long celebrations of the Second Anniversary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Kakinada (JNTU-K) this Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School of India University Mr. R. Venkata Rao and president of the Progressive Organization for Women (POW) V.Sandhya participated as the chief guests at the function. On this occasion, they stressed the need for creating awareness among the public about human rights. They observed that many educated people were unaware of their rights. JNTUK Vice Chancellor Prof. Allam Appa Rao explained various types of rights. Quoting the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Prof. Appa Rao said that all human beings were born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood, he added.
